Homemakers do more than just bake cookies and keep a home; they are vital decision-makers and instrumental in making Kentucky communities a better place.

To celebrate homemakers, the 2025 Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association (KEHA) Week is Oct. 12-18. This week recognizes the more than 11,000 KEHA volunteer members in the state who learn, lead and serve — improving the quality of life for families and communities through leadership development, volunteering and education.

Themed “Stitched Together: A Plan for the Future,” this year’s educational programs highlight topics including heritage skills, nurturing families, food safety, nutrition, reducing waste, leadership, avoiding scams, civic engagement and many more.

In addition, the community can engage with daily themes that follow the steps of a true sewing designer:

  • Monday – Purpose: What is the quilt for?
  • Tuesday – Planning: Choose your pattern.
  • Wednesday – Product: Hold up the quilt.
  • Thursday – Membership: Add your patch.
  • Friday – Big Picture: The quilt we leave behind.
  • Saturday – Your Sewing Plan.

Be sure to share and engage with social media posts from KEHA’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/officialKEHA. You can also highlight any planned KEHA Week events on social media pages and include #KEHAWEEK with your posts.

University of Kentucky Extension agents for Family and Consumer Sciences work closely with KEHA members and clubs to provide educational programming and coordinate community activities.

Joining KEHA is a great way to get involved with and to give back to your community. If you are interested in learning more, contact the (COUNTY NAME) Extension office or visit https://keha.mgcafe.uky.edu
